Until 4th century people in memorials were offering wine and bread with olives or cheese or rice and they were wishing for “Bliss for the departed” or ” In the memory of the departed”. This is the reason why artoulakia were called “blissful breads”. What has remained from those times is the artoulakia and the coffee that are offered in memorials by the relatives of the departed ones.
